A Tribute to Love

I, Gregory Ryan
take you Savannah Catherine
To be my one wife
to be my closest friend
and to be the first in my heart

In the presence of our God
and our family and friends
in every season
and with the help of the Holy Spirit
I make this sacred vow

I will be your faithful husband
I will love you without condition
I will weep and laugh with you
I will mourn and dance with you
I will toil and lie with you
I will put you before all others
even myself
I will be forever yours
and even death itself shall suffer to divide us

I, Savannah Catherine

to be my closest friend
and to be the first in my heart

In the presence of our God
and our family and friends
in every season

And even death itself shall suffer to divide us.

Truth.

I love this man, with all of my heart. Best friend does not even begin to cover it. I am grateful.

Year in Review...a little late

So much happened this year. And that is an understatement!

The pictures are a little hard to see...but SO much happened that I had to try and fit them all in!!

2011 was a great year. A truly GREAT year. The best of my entire life so far!

Let's begin at the beginning shall we...

We love her to bits and pieces...can you tell?

Many friends got engaged, many friends got married, and many friends had babies.

My most favorite day of all!

Had some fun vacations this year! SoCal, Philadelphia, Portland, Disneyland, Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, San Diego. We were very blessed in 2011!

And to top it all off I started nursing school too.

Well it sure has been an amazing, incredible, whirlwind of a year...and I wouldn't have traded a single second!! Here is to a new year, that probably will not top this one...but I hope it come to a close second!

{I have no choice, but I would still choose you.}

I love this song. It haunts me and send chills down my spine.

It is the perfect example of the struggle, love, and eternity of marriage.
It makes me think of who I am as a wife and the poison that can easily come from my mouth instead of joyous and celebratory wine.

Our spouses are usually the ones we are hardest on, the ones that can cut us to the core like no other but on the other hand know just what to do to ground us and calm our hearts.

The poignant lyrics in this song make me examine my heart and words and actions I take against my husband

"Your hands can heal, your hands can bruise"
"You mouth is poison, your mouth is wine"
"I don't love you, but I always will"

This are powerful words that, depending where your heart lies can build up or tear down your marriage.

I want my hands to HEAL
I want WINE to pour from my lips
I don't want to breed bitterness or selfishness in my marriage, but honesty, deep love, commitment above all else to God, and to each other.

My favorite line from this song though is:

"I have no choice, but I would still choose you."

We have made a commitment, a vow, and at this point I have no choice in the matter. We will be together forever, there is no second option. This overjoys me, but I know there will be times in the future when this seems too hard to handle or too much pressure, and I will want to run

I pray I will always choose you.
I pray you will always choose me.

An update and a Pinterest DIY

Learn how to make this skirt after an update:

As always this last month has been a whirl wind! The end of my quarter for nursing school is coming up so I have been crazy busy with exams, practical tests, and patient care.

{AND}

You might remember my 2 preggo bridesmaids from OUR WEDDING a couple months ago, and they both gave birth this month...I have been a blessed and happy pseudo-auntie!

 {Charlie Sue}

{Hannah Louise}
Her momma blogs over HERE so check her out!

Needless to say I have been
Cuddling
loving
swaddling
kissing
studying
For about the last two weeks. : )

I also have been painting, rearranging, crafting, and decorating our little home these last few weeks...with a few DIY projects thrown in from PINTEREST.

So here is my Men's Button up shirt skirt tutorial.
It's amateur at best, so hang with me!

So lucky for me my husband was getting rid of clothes this weekend.
I have been dying to try the men's button up turned skirt DIY, so this was perfect!

So cut right underneath the armpit from one side to the other

Now I didn't dare document this part because my sewing machine is a beast (see last post) and I am praying Baby Jesus sends me one for Christmas...but the "skirt" will be way to big. So there are a couple options:

cut it along the back lengthwise, pin it and sew it to a proper fit, take it in on either side, or sew a border on the upper edge and add a drawstring.

Final product...I was pleased!

There are a lot of buttons going on in this outfit...and for this I apologize. : )

Anyway this was super simple and fun!

Must try photo apps + Tutorial

So I know not everyone owns an iphone, but I think most phones these days have apps you can buy...well here are some of my favs!

{Instagram}

Instagram would of course be my top pick. It takes all your photos and gives them that vintage look, and so many diferent styles. Make iphonography interesting and fun!

{Phonto}

My newest FAV app is Phonto. One of my besties, Ali from Ballpoint + Pen was over the other day and showed me it's wonders!
It allows you to add captions to your photos and links up with instagram and your iphone photo library so there is pretty much seamless transition between picking, tweaking, vintage-ing and posting pics. LOVE IT!

This may be my all time favorite picture of my husband. God, may I please please pop out babies this adorable and chubby? Amen.

This is my absolute favorite picture I have made with Phonto. From our Honeymoon!

{Pic Stitch}

This app is also a new favorite! Collages galore! And you know I love myself a good collage!

Food.

Coffee.

Baby.

Mr. Horton

Ok, folks and here is the coolest part about all these picture apps!

They all interact with each other seamlessly!

{Instagram-Phonto-Pic Stich Tutorial}

Step 1: Take your pictures in Instagram. I chose the black and white setting, which actually is not normal for me. But I thought it would look cool for this project.

Step 2: Next Open your pictures in Phonto one by one, and add the words you want to them.

Step 3: Choose a template on pic stitch and add in your Phonto pics. So fun!

All the pictures you take for each of these apps can be saved to you photo library, so you never lose the original or any of your steps, unless you choose to delete them yourself!

What are your favorite iphone/android apps that I should know about??

Portland in Pictures.

The Mr. and I decided to kick it a little closer to home for our Honeymoon and spend most of our money on a bangin' hotel. Total worth it. Totally recommend it! And hey...now his parents are taking us to Cabo so we didn't really miss out on the exotic (is Cabo exotic?! haha) beach aspect.

We instantly fell in love with The City of Roses and I kid you not we looked at rentals and jobs there while on our honeymoon! But fret not we are not packing up and moving anytime soon, we just have many plans to go back there for vacations and get-a-ways!

Our honeymoon in Instagram.

The Nines - Portland.

Every night our hotel served free gourmet dessert. We never skipped free dessert - ever.

This is how pretty much every morning started at Public Domain Coffee

Many afternoons were lazily spend browsing in Powell's bookstore - the largest in North America.

Adorable home "how-to" book from homemade wine and brewing to how to raise chickens and goats.

Little Big Burger

A trip to the Chinese Tea Garden in China Town.

Voodoo Doughnuts of course.

We would just walk around the city until we found a shop or coffee place or restaurant we wanted to try. We spent the better part of an afternoon browsing Anthropologie and Sur La Table across the street.

Amazing pour-over coffee again at Public Domain

Is it normal to be so in love with paper?

Bliss.

I love this man to the moon and back and can't wait for the rest of our married adventures!

Please do me a big favor and plan a trip to Portland...It is amazing and relaxing and just completely wonderful!

A lot of people ask " how was the honeymoon?!" and I think the best way to respond would be:
It was like the best Saturday morning stretched out over an entire week.

Waking up late, getting coffee, walking around in the city, staying up late, eating dinner our, getting cockatial.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

Thank you, thank you you are too kind!

So the lovely Lindsay over at Little Mudpies awarded me the versatile blogger award...and to be honest I was ashamed, but of course also extremely thankful and honored!! I had not updated my blog in about 2 months and I still got nominated! Well you will thoroughly enjoy her blog...go read about her son's new obsession. It had me laughing for quite a long time! : )

After accepting the Versatile Blogger Award, the blogger must
Thank the person who gave the award and link back to them in your post.
Share 7 things about yourself.
Pass this award along to 10 recently discovered blogs.

So here are 7 things about me...some silly, some serious, and some embarrassing (couldn't resist!)

1. I raised silk worms when I was a child. Yes, silk worms...and I LOVED it. I always was sad when they died.
2. My husband and I did not have sex until our wedding night. Quite the feat...let me tell you what. ; )
3. My entire childhood I rocked a bowl cut-mullet. You tell me how that is possible and I'll tell you how 6th grade was for me.
4. My husband is the funniest person I know and we are ridiculous together. We stayed up until 1am the other night  laying in bed and playing Angry Birds on my iphone. We were literally fighting like 2 year olds over whos turn it was to hold the phone.
5. I am in nursing school and I love it! I can't wait to be a nurse for realsies, I want to be an OB/GYN nurse.
6. I love to craft! I would craft myself into a corner in our house if Greg didn't make me spend some of our money on say clothes and food.
7. I have a TON of pet peeves, like seriously way too many for a normal person, and none of them make any sense. Like middle aged women in mickey mouse shirts, and the way children smell when they wake up from naps. Yuck!

Anyway so now let me nominate my ladies!!

She also is small with a tall husband. Love it!

Ok so I can only think of 9. Sorry!

Love, Sav

Chocolate French Macaroon Recipe

Believe it or not this was another recipe that I made using only the contents of my cupboards...no grocery store trip here. It seems so hard to make, but I had everything on hand already!

Ingredients

    Macaron Batter
1 cup (100 gr) powdered sugar
½ cup powdered almonds (about 2 ounces, 50 gr, sliced almonds, pulverized)
3 tablespoons (25 gr) unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
2 large egg whites, at room temperature
5 tablespoons (65 gr) granulated sugar

    PRE-HEAT OVEN to 350
using a food processor grind whole almonds to a coarse powder. It calls for it to be a fine powder, but you will blend it again with the rest of the powdered ingredients!

add the coarse almond powder, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder to blender or food processor and blend away! The almond powder tends to make the mixture stick since it contains oils, so you may need to shake the blender a bit to get it all going and mixed up.

Transfer mixed dry ingredients to a bowl, as you have to carefully fold it into the egg mixture and transferring it directly from the blender or food processor cup would make it more difficult.

At this point blend you egg white. I used a stand mixture but I actually prefer to use a hand mixer as you can control it more. Whip the egg whites until they start to rise and hold their shape. Do not whip them long enough to see peaks or the bright white color. I don't think I whipped mine enough though.

Add granulated sugar and whipe egg whites until they are very firm and hold their shape.
The recipe I looked at said about 2 minutes, but mine took longer!

GENTLY fold dry ingredients in 2 batches into the egg whites. Fold JUST enough so that no egg white streaks are visible in the mixture.

Put blended batter into a pastry bag or a ziplock with the tip cut if you are poor lazy thrifty desperate!
I always fold my pastry bags or ziplock over a tall glass cup to put the batter in so it doesn't get everywhere! Works for me! : )

Pipe those suckers onto a cookie sheet with parchment paper or no stick tin foil down.
The first batch I made I piped the batter into a spiral kind of thing, and the second batch I pushed the ziplock onto the cookie sheet and slowly pulled up as the batter came out and those cookies turned out SO much better!

Cook macaroons in the oven for 18-20 mins and leave them to cool completely on the pan (I moved them onto a cooling rack and they were fine) fill with frosting of your choice when they are completely cool and
    ENJOY!
Honestly I ate some the next day and the day after and they just seemed to get better everyday, so I dunno whats up with that...but I guess just know you can cook them a couple days ahead for a party!

    2 things

    1. I folded the the dry ingredients into the egg white too much and the inside of my macaroons were just the slightest bit chewy.
    2. When I spiraled the batter out of the piping bag the macaroons cracked in weird places, but when I piped the batter out slowly they cracked right where they were supposed to on the bottom edge.
Hope you have success with these little French wonders!
